Cement Kilns: Clinker Minerals
Alite is the main mineral (>50%) in most modern clinker, and is the characteristic mineral of Portland cement. Alite only becomes stable above 1250°C, and cant form unless the burning temperature gets above that at some stage.
Belite-based low-carbon clinker cements
Alite, as the most important constituent of normal Portland cement (PC) clinker, mostly accounts for 50-70 per cent of PC clinker mineralogical composition, while belite generally is 15-30 per cent. However, a study into the development of belite-based alternative clinkers has been ongoing for some time.
A is for alite - International Cement Review
A is for alite. By Arthur Harrisson. Published 18 June 2012. Tagged Under: mineralogy clinker alite belite microscopy . The characteristics of clinker minerals when viewed under the microscope reveal key information about the cement production process. Arthur Harrisson explains their importance, mineral non-equilibrium and mineralogy in practice. He also takes a closer look at the key mineral ...
Cement Kilns: Clinker Thermochemistry
Portland cement clinker thermochemistry Clinker Thermochemistry ... of course, is the essence of the discovery made by William Aspdin in the 1830s: making Portland cement, of which alite is the characteristic mineral, requires a higher temperature. By reducing the alite content, kiln output can be increased, but at the expense of a dramatic reduction in the reactivity of the cement. Rawmix ...
Portland cement clinker - Understanding Cement
Portland cement clinker is a dark grey nodular material made by heating ground limestone and clay at a temperature of about 1400 °C - 1500 °C. The nodules are ground up to a fine powder to produce cement, with a small amount of gypsum added to control the setting properties.
Cement kiln - Wikipedia
Alite is the characteristic constituent of Portland cement. Typically, a peak temperature of 1400–1450 °C is required to complete the reaction. The partial melting causes the material to aggregate into lumps or nodules, typically of diameter 1–10 mm. This is called clinker. The hot clinker next falls into a cooler which recovers most of its heat, and cools the clinker to around 100 °C ...
What is Cement Clinker? Composition, Types & …
Aside from the Portland cement blends, some special types of cement clinker are listed below: Sulfate Resistant Clinker; Low Heat Clinker; White Clinker; Low-alkali Clinker; Belite Calciumsulfoaluminate Ternesite (BCT) Sulfate Resistant Clinker. It contains 76% alite, 5% belite, 2% tricalcium aluminate, 16 % tetracalcium aluminoferrite, and 1% free calcium oxide. Its production has decreased ...
Belite - Wikipedia
The alite shows as brown, the belite as blue, and the melt phases as white. Electron microscopy can also be used, in which case the minerals may be identified by microprobe analysis. The preferred method to quantify the minerals accurately is X-ray diffraction on the …
Reaction of Portland cement clinker with gaseous …
Reaction of Portland cement clinker with gaseous SO 2 ... the key problem is how to achieve the coexistence of yeelimite and alite to synthesize alite-yeelimite clinkers. Alite-yeelimite has been synthesized by adding fluorite and/or other additives such as CuO and ZnO into raw meals [, , ]. However, fluorite is volatile and can cause the formation of kiln rings or other deposits during ...

It has been found that homogeneous clinkers , alite enriched, with few clusters of belite, and with smaller and more reactive alite crystals, show the best strength evolution and grindability behavior. Alite-yeelimite cement: Synthesis and …
XRD patterns were measured to document the changes in phase composition between ordinary Portland cement clinker and alite-yeelimite clinkers with and without secondary thermal treatment. The main phases in all investigated clinkers are alite, and to a lesser extent belite. Differences between the clinkers are mainly found in the aluminate and sulphate phases. Fig. 2 shows a comparison of the ...

CLINKER GRINDING IN CEMENT PRODUCTION
Clinker (in cement industry) is transitional product in cement production. Upon heating mixture obtained from limestone (about 75%) and clay (about 25%) partial melting occurs and clinker granules are formed. Clinker and gypsum (about 5 %) are mixed and finely milled to obtain cement. Gypsum control the setting properties of the cement. It can be partially replaced by other forms of calcium ...
Effect of SO3 and MgO on Portland cement …
1. Introduction. MgO and SO 3 are the most common minor components of cement clinkers , , .As such, the effect of these components on cement clinkers was previously investigated using design of experiments (DoE) .It was observed that MgO and SO 3 could stabilize different types of alite, and the traits of the polymorphs were identified using X-ray diffraction (XRD) , , , , .
How much alite? - International Cement Review
It is well known that the four main phases of cement clinker, known as alite, belite, aluminate and ferrite or other similar names, perform different functions, first of all in the formation of the cement clinker and secondly in the reaction of cement with water to produce a strong and durable end product.
